Departmental Overview

University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) increases support for and enhances knowledge of UC Berkeley through communications, public outreach, and fundraising. The department is responsible for centralized fundraising and donor engagement and works to strengthen unit development offices by consulting and partnering with campus fundraisers. University Development and Alumni Relations also handles a range of central activities and services encompassing events, communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management, database management, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Represent and advise the Vice Chancellor (VC) with authority to make decisions on high-level task forces and strategic planning groups.
  • Participate in campus-wide short and long-term strategic planning.
  • Negotiate with senior administrators, volunteer leaders, donors, alumni, other UC locations, and external organizations to develop solutions to complex campus problems; provide briefings on emerging issues.
  • Steer and coordinate implementation of strategic and operational plans.
  • Provide campus-wide influence on systemic issues and formulate advancement approaches.
  • Support Chancellor's and Vice Chancellor's fundraising efforts and participate in donor strategy development.
  • Provide strategic leadership by collaborating on division fundraising and strategic plans, workforce planning, change management, and removing barriers to goals.
  • Perform complex research and studies for department and campus constituents.
  • Ensure proper communication and messaging from the VC's office.
  • Oversee the Vice Chancellor's Immediate Office including team development, culture building, internal communications, and HR liaison functions.
  • Exercise certain salary administration authority on behalf of the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of campus processes, protocols, and employment laws including UC policies and contracts.
  • Knowledge of organizational reporting structures.
  • Advanced strategic thinking and consulting skills.
  • Managerial strategic planning, project planning, employment law, consulting experience, team management, conflict management, mentoring, contracts, project implementation, negotiation, and university experience.

Salary Range: $176,100 - $355,900 a year

Location: Berkeley, CA
