Description
- Serve as the CTO's strategic partner and operational right hand
- Own the technology organization's operating cadence, including staff meetings, quarterly planning, budget cycles, and OKR tracking
- Translate strategic priorities into measurable execution plans and ensure follow-through
- Provide technical oversight for architecture decisions, platform investments, vendor evaluations, security posture, compliance, and technical debt
- Prepare board materials, executive briefings, technology updates, and narratives connecting technology investment to business and clinical value
- Represent the CTO in meetings, high-stakes decisions, board materials, and enterprise planning when unavailable
- Manage cross-functional alignment and dependencies with Finance, HR, Legal, Product, and Clinical Operations
- Lead engineering or IT teams on an interim basis during transitions, leaves, or hiring gaps
- Own technology budget discipline, vendor negotiations, contract renewals, procurement, and cost optimization
- Lead workforce planning, hiring strategy, organizational design, performance reviews, promotion cycles, and career ladders
- Partner on HIPAA, data privacy, security, risk, and regulatory compliance
- Drive major cross-functional technology initiatives from inception through completion
- Handle confidential personnel, vendor, and executive matters with discretion
- Mentor senior engineers and managers and develop future technical leaders
- Advise the CTO on organizational, technical, political, and business matters and synthesize information for timely decisions
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive experience in technology roles
- At least 3–5 years in a chief of staff, director, or deputy CTO capacity
- Strong technical background in software engineering, infrastructure, or architecture
- Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and cross-functional programs at scale
- Track record building or scaling organizational processes, including performance management, hiring, and career development frameworks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience preparing executive- and board-level materials
- Experience partnering with security, compliance, or risk functions, ideally in a regulated in
