Chief of Staff
About Earth
At Earth, we believe how we say farewell matters. Our mission is to transform the end-of-life experience by offering families a beautiful, sustainable alternative to cremation and burial. Instead of traditional methods that harm the environment, our gentle, natural process transforms the body into nutrient-rich soil in just 45 days — returning life to the earth and leaving a meaningful legacy.
Earth is the national leader in soil transformation, backed by major investors, and growing fast.
That's where you come in. We're looking for a sharp, resourceful operator to work directly alongside our CRO/Head of Product as a strategic right hand — someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves fast, and wants to learn every corner of a high-growth business.
Job Description
As Chief of Staff, you’ll work directly alongside the CRO/Head of Product as a strategic operator and execution partner. Earth is a ~100 person company operating across multiple states and scaling quickly, and we’re looking for a high-potential player to sit at the intersection of Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Operations to drive critical outcomes.
This is not a traditional assistant or coordinator role: you'll be assigned outcomes, not tasks. You'll own projects end-to-end, figure out what needs to happen, and drive them across the finish line without waiting for direction. We're looking for someone who sees a gap and fills it before anyone asks.
The right candidate is intensely curious, intrinsically motivated, and biased toward action. You'll go from prepping an executive briefing to chasing down a vendor invoice to pulling CRM data for a business review, all before lunch.
This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants an accelerated path within a startup. You'll get unmatched exposure to how a 100-person company operates across every function.
This role is based at our HQ in San Francisco. Our SF team is hybrid and typically works from our office in North FiDi/Jackson Square 1-2 days per week.
Responsibilities
Strategic Project Tracking & Execution
- Track the company's highest-priority initiatives across product and go-to-market — ensuring milestones are hit and nothing falls through the cracks.
- Follow up on action items from cross-functional meetings and drive them to resolution.
- Own project trackers and status reporting for state launches, facility openings, compliance deadlines, and other company-wide initiatives.
- Prepare agendas, pre-read materials, and briefing docs for executive and leadership meetings.
Vendor & Partner Coordination
- Serve as a coordination point for key technology, service, and media partners — tracking multi-threaded deliverables and follow-ups across internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain vendor contact and contract records across active partnerships.
- Coordinate with external agencies on scheduling, deliverables, and deadlines.
- Process invoices, manage SaaS renewals, and handle expense reconciliation.
Communication Management
- Own the flow of information across Slack, email, Google Docs, and vendor threads — surface what needs attention, flag stale items, and close loops.
- Draft emails, briefing docs, and responses on behalf of senior leadership.
- Keep a running inventory of open items, stale threads, and approaching deadlines across all communication surfaces.
- Handle budget tracking, expense management, and financial routing.
- Manage meeting logistics for external partner engagements.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of professional experience; internships in consulting, venture capital, startup operations, or a Chief of Staff role are strongly preferred.
- AI builder, not just AI user. You've automated a workflow, built a tool, or used AI to ship something that saved real time.
- Exceptional written communication. You'll draft emails, briefing docs, and reports on behalf of senior leadership.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage dozens of open workstreams simultaneously.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid context-switching across product, sales, marketing, operations, and finance.
- Data-literate — proficient in Google Sheets and comfortable learning CRM and BI tools quickly.
- High agency and low ego: equally willing to chase down an overdue invoice and prepare an executive strategy briefing.
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional judgment: you'll interact with external partners, vendors, and executives regularly.
- Genuine interest in Earth's mission and the death care industry's transformation.
